Beach volleyball might reach its highest point since the sport returned after the break imposed by the coronavirus pandemic this weekend as basically everywhere you look at in Europe there will be an important tournament going on.

Four National Championships and two national tour events are currently happening in the continent and don’t forget the World Tour one-star event in France. In other news, the international calendar has been changed once again and the teams that qualified for this year’s European Championships already know who their first opponents in Jurmala will be.

National champions to be crowned in Austria, Czech Republic, Italy and Poland

It will be a critical weekend for beach volleyball in Europe as four national champions will be crowned with National Championships taking place in Austria (Baden), Czech Republic (Opava), Italy (Caorle) and Poland (Myslowice). The Netherlands, which decided their national champions last weekend, and Russia, which will do it next month, will host national tour events in Heerenveen and Lipetsk, respectively.

World Tour continues for the men in Montpellier

International competition, which restarted at the end of July in Ljubljana, Slovenia, continues this weekend with the men playing at the French coast of Montpellier. Home heroes Quincy Aye and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat and Chilean cousins Esteban and Marco Grimalt are the favorites to take gold at the one-star tournament.

FIVB announces changes on the international calendar

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced further changes to the international calendar for the remainder of 2020. The most significant ones are the cancelations of a four-star event in Yangzhou, China, which had initially been postponed, and a two-star tournament in Larnaka, Cyprus, which was supposed to take place next month. It was also informed that the Under-19 World Championships, which were supposed to be in Roi Et, Thailand, in November, has been moved to March 2021.

Social Media: The pools for the European Championships

The 64 teams that are guaranteed at this year’s European Championships already know what their paths in the tournament, which will be played in Jurmala, Latvia, from September 15-20, will look like after the drawing of lots was concluded this week.
